Global School Personnel Survey (GSPS):
The GSPS is part of the Global Tobacco Surveillance System (GTSS) designed by the World Health Organization, the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention and the Canadian Public Health Association to assist countries in establishing tobacco control surveillance and monitoring programmes. The GSPS is a survey of teachers and administrators working in schools selected to participate in the Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS). It collects information on tobacco use, knowledge and attitudes of school personnel towards tobacco, existence and effectiveness of tobacco control policies in schools, and training and materials available for implementing tobacco prevention and control interventions. Health and education professionals can use the data from the survey to plan, implement, and revise programs to reduce tobacco-use among school personnel, improve the dissemination of tobacco control information to students, and provide school personnel with the resources they need to complement a comprehensive tobacco-control program.
