November 13, 2018: Haruna, 45, grew up in a neighbourhood where smoking is a common practice for men. He said he never made any effort to quit smoking till 2013 when he lost his father and a close friend to lung cancer. He added that quitting was not easy for him but he struggled through to ensure that he didn’t worsen the respiratory problems he already had or increase his risk of lung cancer.

Kenya: Anti-Tobacco Lobby Decries Shisha Ban Enforcement Hitch
November 13, 2018: Lack of coordination between county and national government is hampering enforcement of the shisha ban, Kenya Tobacco Control Alliance has said. Chairman Joel Gitali now wants tobacco control entrenched in community policing to allow members of the public help in monitoring and intelligence.

Kenya: Mombasa Residents Call For Total Ban On Smoking At Public Places
October: 19, 2018: The County Government of Mombasa has been asked to introduce and enforce strict laws to ban smoking in public places. The residents have accused the county government of not enforcing the Tobacco Control Act 2007, saying this has largely contributed to the uncontrolled smoking in the tourist resort town.
