Tobacco is one of the major export crops of Zambia. In the past years, the production of tobacco leaf has been increasing. Nevertheless, smallholder farmers can hardly make a living because tobacco is very labour intensive and needs many inputs. Working on tobacco fields, women risk their health due to a lack of protective equipment. This is about the women’s rights to health and safe working conditions. Tobacco breaks hearts – World No Tobacco Day 2018
Tobacco use is a major cause of cardiovascular disease, including coronary heart disease, stroke and peripheral vascular disease.
Despite the devastating harms of tobacco to heart health, and the availability of solutions to reduce tobacco-related death and disease, knowledge among large sections of the public that tobacco is one of the leading causes of CVD is low. Mississippi Tobacco Free Coalition taking action against smoking ordinance in Columbus
If you’ve driven past Propst Park In Columbus, you might’ve seen a sign on the fence that says “Columbus Lets Upgrade.” It’s a message from the The Mississippi Tobacco Free Coalition calling for a change in the city’s smoking policy. The current ordinance allows people to smoke indoors at select locations. However, the coalition wants the ordinance to be upgraded to make the city 100% smoke free.

CDC: Tips from Former Smokers – Roosevelt’s Ad

Bill had diabetes and he used to smoke. Cigarette smoking made his diabetes much worse. In this TV spot from CDC’s Tips From Former Smokers campaign, Bill explains the serious health problems he developed by age 40, including kidney failure, blindness in one eye, and a leg amputated due to poor circulation. Bill suggests that smokers make a list of everything they are willing to give up if they continue to smoke. Bill died from heart disease at age 42.

James started smoking at age 14 in an attempt to be like his father. Thirty years later he decided to quit and adopt a much healthier lifestyle.
Now 48, James has been smoke-free for 2 years and has made other important changes to improve his health. He became an avid cyclist and rides up to 10 miles every day for exercise. He also enjoys swimming and does some sort of cardio exercise every morning. He says if you smoke, you should quit.
