Theme: Rising Trends in Emerging Tobacco and Nicotine Products in Africa – The Need for Youth-led Action & Regional Collaboration

Africa is witnessing a sharp rise in the use and aggressive marketing of emerging tobacco and nicotine products (e-cigarettes, heated tobacco, flavoured shisha, etc.), especially among young people. These products pose a growing threat to public health across the continent.

Objectives:

• Examine the rising presence and marketing of novel tobacco products in African countries
• Share country-level experiences and regulatory gaps (Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Zambia…)
• Promote youth-led advocacy and regional cooperation
• Counter misleading “harm reduction” narratives from the tobacco industry
