The African Tobacco Control Alliance (ATCA) is a pan-African non-profit organization that serves as a platform for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in tobacco control and the promotion of public health in Africa.
Its Executive Secretariat is based in Lomé, Togo, and is staffed by people who ensure the operational and administrative coordination of activities as well as communication with its members in Africa and partners.
As part of the implementation of its 2024-2028 Strategic Plan, in this case the activities falling under the following priority areas:
1- Promote the adoption and implementation of policies consistent with the FCTC,
2- Integrate the work of ATCA into other key priority areas,
3- Invest in strategic partnerships,
ATCA, is looking for an experienced professional, male or female, for an outsourced consultancy job, to carry out an external service part-time contract as a consultant in charge of Research & knowledge Documentation associate.
POSITION:
CONSULTANT / RESEARCH & KNOWLEDGE DOCUMENTATION ASSOCIATE
I- DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
Under the supervision of the Executive Secretary, the Consultant in charge of Research & Knowledge Documentation is responsible for:
- Supervise the research/surveys area as part of the implementation of projects with strategic partners (production of tools, support for the collection, processing, analysis, writing and proofreading of reports, synthesis and dissemination of data);
- Establish a strategy to boost tobacco industry monitoring and response teams established in countries and ensure their coordination
- Coordinate the establishment and management of the online library (e-library);
- Establish and lead a scientific reflection and strategic advocacy group (Expert group);
- Identifying research projects and proposing research partnerships in tobacco control and advocacy spheres in other areas such as non-communicable diseases, environment, human rights, vulnerability (women, youth and children), etc.;
- Develop relationships and work with strategic research groups and partners
- Identify, document and promote the knowledge and research findings and make them explicit through various media (fact sheets, abstracts, policy briefs, reports, scientific articles, publications, videos, podcasts, etc.);
- Participate in trainings, workshops, meetings, conferences, scientific and advocacy events
- Contribute to the Research Roundup section of the newsletter
The Consultant may be required to undertake other tasks related to the above responsibilities.
II- PROFILE OF THE CONSULTANT:
– Hold a master’s degree in public health or a related field;
– At least 05 years’ relevant professional experience in public health policy, research and conducting surveys;
– Must have basic competence in tobacco control and have participated in research on the subject;
– Have a sound knowledge of public health and have participated in similar research in the field;
– Have a very good level of English and French (read, written and spoken);
– Good knowledge of research and documentation tools is also recommended;
– Solid research and analysis skills in general;
– Excellent writing skills for abstracts, articles, reports and publications;
– Have a good command of basic IT tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and tools applied to research and statistics (SPSS, Data collection, STATISTICA etc…);
– Excellent organizational skills;
– Ability to plan effectively, prioritise, take initiative, and meet deadlines;
– Ability to work remotely with minimum supervision and to comply with partners’ programs and guidelines;
– Forceful communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely with a variety of audiences;
– Be highly initiative-taking;
– Be available to travel in Africa and other continents
– Have no relationship or interest, direct or indirect, in the tobacco industry
III- DURATION AND TERMS OF PERFORMANCE OF THE SERVICE CONTRACT
The Consultant shall be recruited as an external service provider with relocation of his place of work to his home country.
The Consultant’s work will be carried out over a period of twelve (12) months, with the possibility of renewal on the basis of the results after evaluation.
He will have a remote service contract and will be subject to the same administrative monitoring conditions at the secretariat (production of periodic reports, attendance at meetings by videoconference, compliance with work instructions, etc.).
He/she will ensure good working equipment, good connectivity and availability depending on the activities
Consultants who already have a habitual residence in Togo are also eligible to provide remote services while living in Togo.
IV- FEES
The Consultant shall be paid a gross monthly fee of 2000 USD including the 20% service tax to be deducted on behalf of the Tax Administration in Togo.
